SYMPTOMS
There are a number of symptoms or reasons for you to need to come see us. At SOPT and PT4W, our physical therapists will work with you to understand your pain and find the root of the cause. We understand pain and want to help relieve and manage it. We also understand that no injury is the same, and everyone has different pains, abilities, and likes. That is why we will create a treatment plan customized to you and your specific injury. We will work with you to set goals for yourself on your road to recovery, whether it’s to get back to normal every day activity, gain your strength back, or finally get back to that sport you’ve been missing out on due to pain or injury. With our custom plan of care and hands-on approach, we will relieve your pain and you will reach your goals!

ARM/ELBOW
The type of pain that someone will typically feel in their arm/elbow commonly affects the bones, joints or muscles in your arm. The pain can be aggravated by everyday tasks such as exercising, playing sports, manual work, etc. If you are experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Muscle weakness
Numbness
Tingling
Sharp pain
Stiffness
Swelling
The root of your pain can be due to many factors including but not limited to:
Sports injury
Rheumatoid arthritis
Our specialized therapists will thoroughly examine you and your symptoms to determine the root of your pain, and will tailor a rehabilitation program specifically for you and your needs.
SHOULDER
The majority of time, shoulder pain is a result of physical activities such as playing sports, manual labor, or something as simple and repetitive as putting dishes away in a high cabinet. Shoulder pain is one of the most common reasons patients come to see us, as it is the most mobile joint in the body and very frequently used. If you are experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Severe ache or pain
Constant or lingering pain
Pain that gets progressively worse
Increased pain with movement
Increased difficulty with movement
Decreased mobility
Shoulder pain can be due to a number of reasons that include, but are not limited to:
Rotator cuff injury
Shoulder dislocation
Stiff joints
At SOPT and PT4W, we know shoulder pain, and we know that it can really set you back. Our therapists know how to treat and manage your pain, and will create a personalize treatment plan for you and your needs based on your injury and goals.
WRIST/HAND
Pain in your hands and wrists can make it very difficult to get through the day since we use them for everything, everyday. The pain may even cause you to stop doing things you love such as gardening, drawing, sewing, etc. This is something that can develop suddenly or progress slowly over the course of several years. If you are experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Weakness
Numbness
Tingling
Swelling
Difficulty making a fist
Difficulty grasping or holding objects
Difficulty rotating your wrist
Hand or wrist pain can be due to a number of reasons that include, but are not limited to:
Carpal Tunnel
Nerve damage or inflammation
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Tissue tightening or thickening
We know that hand pain can be frustrating at times, and can hinder you from doing what you enjoy. We want to make sure we approach your injury correctly, which is why we will spend time understanding you and your pain in order to give you a specially tailored treatment plan to relive your pain and increase your quality of life.
HEAD/NECK
Some neck pain can be unbearable, causing you to lose sleep at night, making your work day difficult to get through, and hoping some cold or hot compresses will relieve some pain. There can be many causes for neck pain such as inflammation, sleeping in a crooked position, or injury. It may be time to come see us if you’re experiencing any of the following:
Numbness
Tingling
Sharp or burning pains
Dull aching with head or neck movement
Decreased mobility in your neck
Radiating pain to your face or head
This type of pain can be due to many factors including, but not limited to:
Compressed or herniated discs
Fibromyalgia
Poor posture
Spinal narrowing
Whiplash
This type of pain can start from neck pain, which then turns into a headache and face pain. Our therapists are trained to help relieve your pain, and improve your quality of life with a personalized treatment plan.
BACK
Back pain is a pretty common condition we see, and can affect people of all ages. It is normally a chronic condition, meaning it’s a persisting pain over a long period of time or constantly recurring. This type of pain can radiate and be felt in the arms and legs as well as the back. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Extreme discomfort in the upper and/or lower back
Muscle spasms
Pain while sitting for long periods
Pain while standing for long periods
Sharp pain in the upper and/or lower back
Soreness
Stiffness
This type of pain can be caused by a number of factors including, but not limited to:
Weak core muscles
Scoliosis
Herniated or compressed discs
Slipped discs
Slipped vertebrae
Compressed nerves
Osteoporosis
Narrowing of spinal columns
Back pain can be serious and can limit your everyday activity. We know how tough it can be to experience this type of pain. Our therapists will work with you one on one to create a personalized approach using different techniques that work best for your injury and pain levels to start you on your healing journey.
LOWER BACK/BUTTOCK
Pain in this area can be a real ‘pain in the butt’, hindering your normal everyday activity or your ability to move easily. Pain can arise from simply lying down, sitting, or even just walking to the kitchen. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Sharp or burning pain
Dull pain or aches
Lingering pain
Pain while sitting or standing
Inflammation
Back or buttock cramping
Pain in this area can be due to many reasons that include, but are not limited to:
Slips or falls
Compressed or herniated discs
Slipped discs
We know how irritating lower back or buttock pain can be, and how it can make it difficult to get through the day. That is why we are here to help by creating a treatment plan specifically tailored to you and your needs. We want to make you comfortable and your experience with us a good one.
HIP
One may think that hip pain comes with aging, but it in fact affects people of all ages, especially dancers and athletes. Just like any other joint, the muscles, tendons, and cartilage can wear down, and the bone itself can break. It may be time to come see us if you’re experiencing any of the following:
Pain in the buttocks, groin or thigh
Limited range of motion
Pain in the joint or around the joint
Pain while walking or sitting for long periods of time
Pain while lying down on that side
Pain that causes limping
There are many factors that can cause hip pain that may include, but are not limited to:
Rheumatoid arthritis
Hernia
Hip dislocation
Bursitis
This type of pain is not something that can be ignored or will just go away. That is why our therapists are here to help you relieve your pain so that you can get back to your normal activity pain free. They will examine your injury and determine the best plan of action tailored to you and your needs.
LEG
Leg pain is a pretty common complaint, and it can be mild or severe. We use our legs every day, and put in a great amount of work with them, especially if you are an athlete, runner, or work in manual labor. You may be able to get by some days with mild pain by using cold or hot compresses, but if the pain progressively gets worse, then it may be time to come see us. You may be experiencing any of the following with your leg pain:
Weakness
Sharp or severe pain that doesn’t go away
Swelling
Muscle spasms
Bruising
Broken blood vessels
Leg pain can be caused by many factors including, but not limited to:
Muscle cramps
Shin splints
Growing pain (common in children)
Blood clots in the leg
Varicose veins

KNEE
Knee pain is a very common ailment that we see a lot here at SOPT and PT4W. It affects people of all ages, and will most likely affect everyone at some point. It is very difficult to get by with knee pain, because it hinders even the simplest activities such as walking, exercising or climbing stairs. It may be time to come see us if you’re experiencing ant of the following:
Stiff, tender or weak knees
Pain in the kneecap
Pain in or outside the knee joint
Swelling in the knee joint
Pain in the back of the knee
Fluid in the knees
Pain in the knee can be caused by a number of factors including, but not limited to:
Torn ligaments
ACL or PCL tear
Meniscus tear
Knee dislocation
Bursitis
Osgood-Schlatter Disease
We want to help you get back on your feet and back to doing what you love. That is why we will create a treatment plan based on you and your injury to get you started on your road to recovery.
ANKLE
We walk around on our feet every day, putting a load on our ankles. Pain in the ankle is common, especially in athletes, since it is such a used joint. A very common cause of pain in the ankle is poorly fitting shoes. This type of pain can be very vexing and stop you from doing what you love. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it may be time to come see us:
Weakness
Weight instability
Swelling
Bruising
Burning sensations
Ankle pain can be cause by a number of factors, including but not limited to:
Bruises
Stress fractures
Tendon rupture
With a thorough examination, our therapists will work with you to create a treatment plan specific to you and your needs. We know how irritable ankle pain can be, and we want to help get you back on your feet!

FOOT
Foot pain can be the worst at times, especially because we are literally always on our feet. Your quality of life is really hindered when your feet ache or are in pain. Pain in the foot can range anywhere from mild to severe. Mild pain can be improved by stretching the foot, or changing your footwear to something more supportive and comfortable. Severe pain may warrant a trip to the doctor. If you are experiencing any of the following it may be time to come see us:
Swelling
Pain in the arch of the foot
Pain in the heel or toes
Pain while walking or standing
Weakness
Foot pain can be caused by many reasons including, but not limited to:
Stress fractures
We don’t want to see you miss out living your life the way you want, because your feet are in too much pain. That is why we will do everything we can to make sure your pain is minimalized, and bring back your quality of live with a personalized treatment plan.
