Manual physical therapy is an application of specialized hands-on techniques performed by the physical therapist.  Manual PT allows the therapist to effectively assess, manipulate and treat pain or injury.  This type of therapy will help increase the range of motion of the joint by breaking up scar tissue that is limiting your motion and stretching tight musculature.  It also helps control pain by inducing relaxation of the painful area, and reduce swelling through light sweeping motions to encourage fluid drainage.  With this hands-on treatment, it allows the therapists to gather a greater understanding of your injuries and pain levels, and gives them the proper knowledge to create an effective and personalized treatment plan.
